President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named the Northern Parkway road in Abuja after the renowned Nigerian literary icon, Wole Soyinka.
This move is part of the commissioning of various projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark the president’s one year in office.
Wole Soyinka, a celebrated playwright, novelist, poet, and essayist, made history in 1986 by becoming the first sub-Saharan African to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
During the event, Tinubu expressed his admiration for the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, praising his exceptional performance. “Wike, they thought you wouldn’t deliver, but you have proven them wrong. You are my choice, and you have not disappointed me,” Tinubu said.
This accolade comes on the heels of President Tinubu’s commendation of Wike last week when he commissioned the Southern Parkway (S8/S9), renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way in his honour. The president lauded Wike as a team leader and “Mr. Project,” acknowledging his dedication to completing legacy projects in the FCT.
