7 confirmed dead, 15 injured in Oyo road accident

An accident in the Ijaye area of Moniya, along Ibadan-Iseyin road in Oyo State has claimed seven lives, while 15 others sustained injuries.

According to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, Joshua Ajakaye, the accident which occurred on Thursday at about 12:40 pm, was caused by fatigue and speeding.

According to the corps, the accident involved a white Nissan/Urban bus with registration number SEY 254 ZY and a white Mazda bus with registration number GB 343 XA.

The accident happened during a raining period when the road was slippery. Among the seven killed were five males, one female and one infant. The accident however involved 22 persons.

The injured were taken to Fadoks Hospital, Iseyin were three males, one infant and nine females.

Bodies of three dead were deposited at the hospital while four were taken away by their relatives, the FRSC said in its official First Information report.

It was also reported that money found in the pockets of the dead victims counted in the public was later taken by the Moniya Police officers to their station, while the bags recovered at the scene were also kept in the police station.
