THE Sultan of Sokoto and president of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced the sighting of the new moon, signifying the start of a Ramadan 1445AH.
The National Moonsighting Committee Nigeria relayed the Sultan’s message on their social media platform, declaring that fasting should begin on Monday, March 11, 2024.
The Sultan extended his best wishes to all Muslims on the advent of Ramadan encouraged the faithful to adhere to the fasting period and offered prayers for Nigeria’s triumph over its current challenges.
In a related development, the sighting of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia was confirmed, marking the conclusion of Sha’aban and the commencement of Ramadan.
The Haramain Sharafain in Saudi Arabia announced that Taraweeh Prayers would start after Isha Prayers on March 11, 2024.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims globally who fast from sunrise to sunset for a duration of 29 or 30 days, depending on lunar observations.
This period is dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.
