Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission , OSSIEC, Barrister Abioye Hashim, has revealed he will announce the budget of the commission to conduct it’s 2025 local government election to the public when it is ready.
Hashim disclosed this while featuring on a Radio program, in Osogbo, on Friday morning.
It was gathered that the state independent electoral body few days ago announced that it will be conducting local government election of the state next year February 22, 2025.
When asked when will budget for the upcoming election be made public, the OSSIC boss said it will be made know very soon.
“The reason why I have not made it public is that if I give you figure now and there is a reduction eventually because if you have a budget for any project it could be subject to review at any point in time. So it is not sacrosanct.
“If I give you a figure now and you learnt at the end of the day that the figure expended for the election is higher than what I quoted to you or lesser who will I be to you.”
Speaking on the budget used to conduct the last local government election in the state , Hashim dismissed the then OSSIE chairman’s claim that not up to five hundred million naira was used, saying close to two billion naira was used.
Recalled that the last local government election conducted under the administration of former governor who is now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, was nullified by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo over irregularity.
