Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, said most governors of the 37-member Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage are not complying with the proposed base pay structure.

The labour union has proposed a $300 (N436,500) minimum wage for Nigerian workers in anticipation of negotiations for a new national minimum wage.

This proposal, presented by Comrade Benjamin Anthony, Chairman of the Trade Union Side at the Joint Meeting of the National Public Service Negotiating Council, addresses the erosion of the current N30,000 minimum wage due to factors like exchange rate fluctuations and the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy, resulting in a higher cost of living.

Comrade Boma Mohammed, representing Anthony, expressed concern over recent salary payment delays by the Federal Government, emphasizing the need to prevent further hardship in the country.

He said, “In light of the above, Labour has proposed a Living Wage of $300 (N436,500) for Nigerian Workers. This is due to the fall in the value of our currency, today if you carry N100,000 to the market you will come back with a leather bag of items.

“We call on Government to immediately pay the arrears of the N35,000 wage award along with the current and expedited action on the process of getting a new living wage to bring succour to the working class people,” he added.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, said most governors of the 37-member Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage are not complying with the proposed base pay structure.

Ajaero stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. CONTINUE READING………………………….
