APC wins all Ekiti chairmanship, councillorship council poll

VOICE AIR MEDIA News Update

THE candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) have been declared winners of the just concluded local council election in Ekiti State.

The party won all the 16 statutory local councils, 22 local council development areas and 177 councillorship seats.

However, the State Independent Electoral Commissioner, Justice Cornelius Akintayo (rtd), while receiving the results from returning officers at its situation office in Ado- Ekiti, yesterday, commended the efforts of security operatives, political parties, ad-hoc members of staff, journalists and other stakeholders for demonstrating the spirit of patriotism and sportsmanship as well as ensuring the smooth conduct of the election.

Efforts to get the leadership of the PDP, SDP to react to the outcome of the poll and why they didn’t participate proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.

But a PDP chieftain, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the party could not have participated because the election was a charade, adding that it lacks legitimacy.

Meanwhile, the two dominant opposition political parties in the state, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), did not participate in the election.
