Residents of Jajuwal village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State have reportedly repelled an attack by bandits.
It was gathered that one of the bandits died during the clash, which occurred on Tuesday.
DAILY POST gathered that the residents successfully repelled the attackers with the assistance of local vigilante members and hunters.
It was equally gathered that the villagers laid ambush for the gunmen, having got wind of the planned attack.
The residents said the local vigilantes and hunters thwarted the attackers, forcing them to retreat into the forest, although a few individuals were still abducted during the attack.
A community leader in Toro who refused to disclose his identity vowed that the villagers will continue to defend themselves against bandits, saying they have organized themselves into groups to protect their lives and properties.
He said, “Now, we have woken up and we will continue to protect ourselves from this unfortunate situation of the incessant attacks by the bandits and kidnappers. I doff my cap for the people of Jajiwal village and surrounding area who stood up against the attackers on Tuesday and rescued some of the victims.”
Spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakili, could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.
