VAM News Update

Ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet has disclosed that only 20,000 PVCs had been collected out of the outstanding 128,000 left uncollected before the general election of February 2023, as at the close of the collection window on October 15th.

This was as be said unregistered voters numbering about 108,000 will not be able to vote during the election.

Longpet who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, said the figure represents the number of registered voters who have refused to show up for the collection of their Permanent Voters Cards, and or PVCs, during the last collection window of September 10th to October 9th, 2023.

He said, “We have since gone through, and I am sad to say that within the period of four weeks, we were not able to distribute to people the number of PVCs.

“People didn’t come to collect; actually, just about 20,000 out of the 128,000 were collected during the period of the four weeks.”

The REC said special consideration would be given to flood-prone areas like Ibaji, Kupa, Egon, and others already.

“We are talking to the Air Force and Baby to see the possibility of making use of their Aircraft and boats for conveying both personnel and electoral materials to and from those areas,” he said.
