Osun Govt To Spend N2b Palliative Fund On Transportation, Food Items

VAM News Update

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has resolved to spend the palliative fund on three projects and programmes in the state.

The projects and programmes are additional buses to ease transportation cost, rehabilitation of health centres and the purchase of food items.

Adeleke disclosed this on Thursday at the maiden Edition of Ipade Imole, a Public accountability Platform, held at Aurora Event Center.

Adeleke equally gave a peep into his plan for the future which includes dualization of roads at two per senatorial districts;

Flyover bridges at Osogbo and some other towns; street lights for newly constructed roads; second stream of 332 boreholes across wards; Commencement of Imole transport service; and Imole Housing Estate at 500 units per federal constituency.

According to him, “Our administration conceived of 332 boreholes across the 332 political wards as an intervention measure. Each borehole costs one million, five hundred thousand naira. The boreholes are functioning and serving the immediate water needs of our people.”

While speaking on payment of pensioners he posited that his administration has widened the coverage of the payment of pension debt while the contributory pensioners are now enjoying greater attention as accorded regular pensioners.

He also made it known that the people of the state should be rest assured that this administration has not and will not borrow to fund ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

He said “from bridges to dualization of existing roads among other infrastructures, we are pursuing value for money and public private partnership. Our financial plan is sustainable.”

While speaking on the shortage of teachers in most schools he stressed that he had directed the Ministry of Education to conduct a needs assessment as a basis for recruitment and filling of vacancies in schools.

He assured that the report will soon be ready while government is also committed to the implementation of the report of the Education Summit.

The governor however said he have demonstrated strong faith by ensuring the completion many abandoned projects as well as retaining many contractors inherited from previous governments, saying” I am the governor for all Osun people, not a segment.”
