A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Popoola, has been arrested by operatives of the Osun Amotekun for the alleged phone theft.
The security outfit revealed on Thursday that the Modakeke native was arrested in Ikirun town, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the arrest to journalists in Osogbo, the Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, said the suspect was also an ex-convict.
In his words, “The suspect, who specialises in stealing people’s phones, was apprehended by the operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps at Ikirun after a complaint was lodged at the Amotekun Ifelodun command against the suspect’s activities.
“The operatives swung into action immediately and he was arrested when he wanted to sell the stolen phones.
“The suspect during interrogation confessed to being an ex-convict, imprisoned for the same offence in the past and he has been stealing people’s phones in Modakeke and disposing of them in other towns.
“The suspect was on the wanted list of the Nigeria Police for a very long time for the same act.”
“Items recovered from the suspect include, seven SIM cards of different networks, one black Infinix Hot with two SIM cards, one Infinix Hot black phone with one SIM card, one Techno Pop 3 golden casing, one Techno Spark blue casing with another two SIM cards and ATM card.
“The suspect has been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution,” Adewinmbi disclosed.
