Men of the underworld, particularly car-snatching gangs have devised a new means of dispossessing drivers of their vehicles. The Nasarawa Sate Police Command called the attention of road users to this mode of criminal activity in a press statement issued on Monday.
The perpetrators of the crime, according to the statement signed by Nansel Ranham, a deputy superintendent of police and Nasarawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, pretend to be passengers traveling on the Lafia/Akwanga-Keffi routes.
Once on board, they hijack the vehicle from the driver midway into the journey.
To curb the emerging threat therefore, the commissioner of police, Baba Maiyaki has called on transporters in Nasarawa to avoid picking passengers by the roadside.
Instead, the public is advised to board vehicles only at official motor parks in the State.
The statement further admonishes members of the public to take issues of security seriously and not fall prey to the criminals in whatever guise.
Assurances are given that the Command has taken steps to fight any form of criminality before it escalates.
It also lists telephone numbers for people in distress to call the police for help.
