Corps Members Urged To Embrace Vocational Skills

VAM News Update

THE National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has urged Corps Members to acquire vocational skills through the Scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed stated this in his address to Corps Members at Katsina State Orientation Camp, likewise their counterpart in NYSC Borno State Orientation Camp in the Northern part of Nigeria.

General Ahmed said the in-camp training for all Corps Members was designed to expose them to entrepreneurship during their three weeks Orientation period, while the post-camp training period would help them to fully perfect their skills towards self-employment.

He said the only antidote to unemployment is skill acquisition, as he advised the Corps Members to, “learn from SAED, take advantage of SAED and develop your potentials through it in order to be financially independent and become employers of labour”.

He urged them to participate actively in all camp activities and use the four cardinal programmes of the Scheme, namely; Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service and Winding-Up/Passing-Out to create friendships and avenues to impact their host communities.

The Director General of the scheme also warned the Corps Members that it is an offense to violate the NYSC dress code.

“The era of wrong dressing is gone. You must always dress well, don’t dress anyhow because every wrong dress attracts sanctions and if you are wrongly dressed you would not be allowed to enter our offices”.

While briefing the Director General, the NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, Mrs Aisha Muhammad said all the 1,129 registered Corps Members comprising 551 males and 578 females have adjusted to their new environment in high spirits.

Similarly, the NYSC Borno State Coordinator, Mr Mohammed Jiya said there is teamwork among all the camp officials with Orientation Camp activities going on seamlessly.
