A female student of Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State (Name Withheld) has been reportedly raped, with students of the institution calling for justice.
It was learnt that a notorious hoodlum popularly known as ‘Aleba’ sexually harassed the student in Ede town on Sunday.
Speaking on the incident, the management of Federal Polytechnic, Ede confirmed and condemned the alleged sexual assault on its student.
The Sub-Dean of the Directorate of the Students Affair, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Mr Mutiu Agoola while confirming the incident, said the matter has been transferred to the police station and the case is already with the Commissioner of Police (CP).
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun state, DSP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin (JP) corroborated, told WITHIN NIGERIA that the case is with the Police and investigation is currently ongoing.
She, however refused to give further information especially about the culprit, if the suspect have been arrested or not.
Meanwhile, the alleged rape of the student on Monday sparked outrage from students of the schools.
When contacted, the Students’ Union President of the institution, Adedokun Idris shied away from interviews and declined to comment on the incident.
A student of the institution who spoke under the condition of anonymity told WITHIN NIGERIA that “the suspect is notorious for such act and he later go Scot-free in similar cases.
“He is a powerful figure in Ede, they must arrest him and charge in to court, anyone that cover this up, God will Judge them”
Another student of
the school told WITHIN NIGERIA that “…it is barbaric, how will a man just misbehave anyhow and rape around, he should be jailed”.
The students unanimously demanded Justice for the rape victim, calling on the police to arrest the culprit and prosecute him accordingly.
