Gunmen abducted a policeman and two other persons on Tuesday at the Ahume end of the Naka/Makurdi Road in Benue State.
A source revealed that the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the gunmen ambushed them around 4 pm on the expressway and took them to an unknown destination.
The abductors contacted the relatives of the victims and demanded N1.7m ransom.
The Chairman, Gwer West Local Government Area, Andrew Ayande, who confirmed the incident, explained that the area was notorious for criminality.
According to him, “This incident happened on Tuesday; we lost one prominent person around the place on Monday and they took the corpse home on Tuesday. The people (hoodlums) came as usual and they attacked the people in one of the vehicles.”
He explained that a policeman and two others were kidnapped around 4 pm at Ahume, Naka/Makurdi Road, stressing that the vehicle the victims were in had been taken to Naka Police Station.
The chairman stated that the abductors were demanding N200,000 from the family of the policeman, N1m from the female victim and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.
Catherine Anene, the State Police Public Relations Officer, when contacted, explained that she was yet to receive the report.
