THE National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has pledged its support for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The pledge was made by the Executive Director of the NCSCN, Amb. Blessing Akinlosotu, during a meeting with the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, in Abuja.

The meeting was held at the NPC headquarters and was attended by the Federal Commissioners, Director-General and the Management Staff of the Commission. The discussion focused on how the NCSCN can partner with the Commission to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming census.

Amb. Akinlosotu said that the NCSCN is committed to supporting the census because it is a critical tool for planning and development. She said that the census will provide data on the size, structure, and distribution of the population. This data can be used to allocate resources, plan infrastructure, and develop policies.

Hon. Kwarra thanked the NCSCN for its support and said that the Commission is working hard to ensure that the census is conducted in a fair and transparent manner. He said that the Commission is committed to working with civil society organizations to mobilize the populace to cooperate and present themselves to be counted in the census.

The 2023 Population and Housing Census is scheduled to be conducted in Nigeria on March 28, 2023. The census is a constitutional requirement and is conducted every 10 years. The last census was conducted in 2013.

The NCSCN is a coalition of over 1,000 civil society organizations in Nigeria. The NCSCN is a non-partisan organization that advocates for the rights of citizens and promotes good governance.

The NPC is a federal government agency responsible for conducting population and housing censuses in Nigeria. The NPC is also responsible for collecting and disseminating data on population and housing.
