BREAKING: Governor Yahaya Bello escapes death

VOICE AIR MEDIA News Update

Some yet-to-be-identified thugs have attacked the convoy of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday at about 12:30 pm when Governor Bello was returning to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, from his Abuja trip.

It was further learnt that the thugs laid in wait for the Governor’s convoy a few kilometres from the Naval base.

When newsmen visited the area where the incident occurred, security operatives such as the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Department of State Services (DSS) all combed the area as some person in the Governor convoy sustained degrees of injuries.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

Fanwo alleged that the thugs loyal to the former Deputy Publicity of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, who is now the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 11th governorship election in Kogi State, were behind the attack.

“The supporters of the SDP Governorship candidate, having sighted Governor Bello’s convoy, blocked the road, and some of his armed thugs started shooting sporadically at the convoy of the Governor.

“A Tundra branded with the logo of the SDP and with SDP flags also blocked the Governor’s vehicle, and occupants of the SDP branded Tundra were armed with rifles and shotguns. The Governor left the scene unscathed, and there is no cause for panic as the Governor is in high spirit”.

While warning that no APC member should get involved in a reprisal attack, Fanwo appealed to the people of Kogi State to remain calm as security agents are in full control to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums behind the attack.
