•NCWS Demands 35 Percent Appointment In Adeleke’s Govt
OSUN State: The National Council of Women Societies, (NCWS), has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke, to appoint women into key government positions in the state.
NCWS, made this known in NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo, Osun state capital on Wednesday, through its President, Dr. Mrs Adeola Ayoola at a world press conference.
While calling on the state government to be gender sensitive, the group demanded for new ministry, for Special needs’ and it must be headed by Woman, and that his excellency should give room for 35 percent of women representation in his government, Dr Ayoola, said
“Women In Good Governance Project” an initiative of the NCWS for women in all walks of life said ” Everyone of us on this platform, and others that will be added, have been identified as key stakeholders to drive this project and ensure its successful implementation.”
She further explained that Osun NCWS will embark on advocacy to encourage women’s active participation in governance and politics.
She, however, emphasized that the new project under NCWS “is non-partisan, non-political and non-governmental. It is expected to improve governance in Osun State and not a move against the State Government.”
Acknowledging the good work of Mr Governor for approving the appointment of 7 women into the offices of permanent secretary, she said “There are more than twenty nine ministries and we were given seven ministries making it twenty four percent” said they are expecting more.
“We want not ordinary women but women that we can relate and access her office anytime” she told Governor Adeleke.
“Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women and children affairs, and creation of Ministry of special needs.
Speaking with Journalists, Citizen Lola Lewy said “What we are asking for is diversity, equality, equity and inclusion, these are the four things we are asking for at everywhere.”
She demanded that Governor Adeleke should appoint women as commissioner for Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and more women as Special Advisers.
She also called for the creation of Ministry for Special Needs to take care of people living with disabilities.
Alhaja Mulikat Adekunle queried making a man as director at the Ministry of Women Affairs saying, what does he knows about women?
“Someone who doesn’t know the nutrition to recommend for a Pregnant Woman, someone who doesn’t know the time to be pregnant and gave birth, someone who doesn’t know how to train the child of a mad woman they Will be like, a mad woman cannot live with us.
“But as a mother, you cannot see a madwoman outside, if a madwoman cannot live with us the child of a madwoman will be useful.
“We are not saying we want to be competing with men, what we are trying to insinuate is that men and women have different angle with which they think.
“Joining both together will make things to go as they ought to so, women must be included in everything the government wants to do.”, Alhaja Mulikat Adekunle stated.
