Raymond Dokpesi, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the founder of DAAR Communications plc, has sadly passed away at the age of 71.
VAM reports that the news was confirmed by a family member on Monday, revealing that the media mogul breathed his last at a hospital in Abuja.
According to the unnamed family source, Dokpesi had been battling health issues since suffering a stroke shortly after the conclusion of the recent Ramadan fast. Despite his ongoing health management, tragedy struck during one of his regular gym sessions.
The source revealed that an electrical accident occurred while Dokpesi was using a gym equipment, resulting in a stroke that eventually claimed his life.
The Dokpesi family is expected to release an official statement regarding this devastating loss soon.
It is worth noting that in 2020, Raymond Dokpesi and several family members were hospitalised at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Fortunately, they were able to overcome the disease and recover.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dokpesi established African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s media landscape.
Additionally, he served as the Deputy Director-General of Technical and Systems for Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Campaign Council.
