App That Enables Wives Monitor Housework Done By Husbands Launched

VOICE AIR MEDIA News Update

Spain has announced plans to create an app that will tell wives if their men are doing enough housework.

The new app intends to address the gender imbalance of housework and will log the hours a family member spends doing chores.

Spain’s minister for gender equality and domestic violence, Ángela Rodríguez, her department was in the process of developing the free app.

According to a foreign news outlet, The Times, on Thursday, the minister claimed that it would make it possible for both sexes to track the amount of time they spent on housework.

The administration anticipates announcing the app in the summer as part of its “co-responsibility plan.”

Ángela Rodrguez, while speaking at a convention for the committee on the elimination of discrimination against women (Cedaw) in Geneva said, “We women spend more time on domestic tasks than men”

She added that the design of the program would be “bold” and it would be capable of tracking the progress of a variety of domestic tasks, thus reflecting the “mental burden” that housework and caring duties entail.

The app is being designed with couples and families in mind, but it could also be used to share tasks among children or roommates, Ms Rodríguez said.

The government has opened bidding for which company will produce the app, with a budget of €211,000 (£183,000).
