National Assembly Leadership: NCAG Endorses Hon Mukthar Aliyu Betara

In the face of struggle for who becomes speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, a Coalition of Civil Societies under the aegis of Nigerian Citizen Action Group (NCAG) is drumming support for the lawmaker representing Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency of Borno state, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara.

The choice of who becomes National Assembly Speaker, according to NCAG, should not be coloured by sentiments and emotions, but rather leadership skills, values and ethics such as credibility, capability, intellectual rating, critical/ innovative thinking and reasoning strength alongside experience and acceptability of the individual seeking such exotic but intellectual demanding position.

This was contained in a statement by Comrade Muhammad Lukman, who is the spokesperson of the Nigeria Citizen Action Group/Executive Director Intellectual Patriotic Youth Network on Tuesday.

The submission is titled, “BEYOND SENTIMENT: HONORABLE MUKTHAR ALIYU BETARA IS THE BEST FOR 10TH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER”

Nigeria Citizen Action Group is a Coalition of civil society organizations, active national youth and students’ movements in Nigeria with an objective to protect and promote citizens’ interest, good governance and accountability in the public service.

The group said: “Today, we are pleased to address our fellow Nigerians on this subject matter. It is obvious the next stage of transition at the National Assembly is at hand, owing to the understanding of National assembly role in deliverance of good governance in the time past necessitate our interest to alert Nigerians and the our dear House of Representatives Members-Elect in the Hallow chamber to adopt a preventive move instead of curative measure. Only when a competent leads, regret never come talk less of seeking cure.

“The credibility of the House Principal Officer counts a lot in the coordination and performance of the Assembly which in turn influences the general performance of the administration.

“Hon Betara remain the best, most credible and most qualified, aside his youthfulness and wealth of experience is unmatched by any contender being 5th-term member.

“He is also the outgoing chairman House Committee on Appropriation and all these place him far ahead in term of legislative wealth of experience and indepth understanding of one of the major functions of National assembly.

“Honourable Mukthat Betara is a lovable individual by the young and the old because of his unique disposition that represents both generations, he also enjoys the support of all and sundry beyond political party affiliations; hence remain the best for the 10th National Assembly Speaker beyond every sentiment.”

NCAG thereafter urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reconsider her position and adopt a sellable and competent Betara for a seamless principal officer election and emergence proceedings for 10th National assembly.

It also charged all Honorable Members-Elect to place the critical leadership qualities of Honourable Mukthar Aliyu so as to have effective and value-oriented leadership at the Assembly.

“Nigerians should not relent in praying and admonishing their Reps-Elect to do the needful for the collective good of all. God bless Nigeria,” Statement reads.
