Six gunmen on Tuesday morning reportedly shot dead a 20-year-old while robbing homes in Azikoro town, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The victim, Elo Lucky, was reportedly shot by the robbers in the wee hour of the morning for screaming immediately she woke up in shock to see armed men robbing her family.
Voice Air Media learnt that the six armed men stormed the Health Centre area of Azikoro town, broke into homes, stole phones, and demanded ATM cards from which they withdrew all their victims’ monies through the POS machines they came along with.
This newspaper also learnt that the victim, who was from Delta State and was living with her mother and stepfather, was preparing to write the supplementary JAMB exams before her murder.
A source in the neighbourhood said they were unaware of the robbers’ attack (because their generator was running at the time). until they heard the gunshot that killed the victim.
According to reports, the robbers raided six other homes in the area unresisted. They ransacked homes, robbed victims of their cash, and even threatened to kill those who refused to give their ATM card pins for instant withdrawal through their POS.
The incident left Azikoro town mourning as sympathisers trooped to the home of the bereaved family.
When contacted, the Bayelsa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
