Osun govt commissions work station, skills acquisition centre For PWDs

Still on the event that marked the 100 days in office of Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Friday, the state government commissioned project to foster support and give sense of belonging to the Persons leaving with disabilities in the state.

The projects commissioned by the governor includes a tye and dye work station, rehabilitated skills acquisition centre for persons with disabilities, distribution of medical materials, mobillty aids to people with spinal cord injury.

The Governor who was abley represented by his Deputy Kola Adewusi, at the Commissioning which took place at Testing Ground, Osogbo, described Skill as a universal currency and every individual supposed to be skilled in one area or the other.

The Governor said, “According to the World Bank, low skills perpetuate poverty and inequality. When done right, skill development can reduce un-employment and under- employment, increase productivity and improve standard of living. Helping people develop and update their skills makes economic sense.

“Therefore, people with disabilities need skills to engage in livelihood activities to shun street begging, combat poverty and be economically strong.

“Similarly, the Mobility Aids and Medical Materials to be distributed today to people with spinal cord injury will go a long way to alleviate their suffering and makes life more meaningful to them.

“Without fear of contradiction, I’ll like to place on record that this administration is in governance to change the negative attitude of society to the people with disabilities by empowering them with different skills which will enable them integrate successfully into the society and be financially independent.”

The General Manager Of Osun State Community And Social Development Agency,OSUN CSDA, Aderonke Abokede, thanked the state governor for providing an enabling environment.

She said, “Today’s event is an evidence based mainstreaming of disabilities into development and this will distinguish and make Osun State a role model of building inclusive society and giving voice to the voiceless. The Government of Osun State is willing and committed to ensuring social inclusion through the funding of socially inclusive micro projects for persons with disabilities.”
