There was wild jubilation in Abia state today as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC declared former bank chief, Alex Otti, winner of the state’s March 18 election.
Mr Otti polled 175,467 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Okey Ahiwe of the PDP who polled 88,529 votes.
Following the declaration of the results, Abia residents trooped to the streets to jubilate. They went wild with excitement as they danced and had a fun-filled procession. The joyful residents who were spotted celebrating the Labour Party candidate’s win with a coffin, were heard saying “PDP anwuola” which loosely translates to PDP is dead.
PDP has been in charge of the state since 1999.
