In a bid to ensure maximum use of our resources through public and private sector partnership engagement, Ministry of Agriculture and Food security is partnering with Benin Owena River Basin and FMS Agro Farms towards increment in horticultural productivity and market development in the state.
An outgrower initiative in Tomato and Pepper production is being midwifed through this collaboration at Benin Owena River Basin’s Dam located in Ayede Ekiti. The Agency is providing land, drips irrigation and inputs while Ministry of Agriculture is providing the man power, training and extension service through Agricultural Development Program (ADP) network. FMS- Agro has been in this business for more than a decade and has developed structure and tailor made route to markets for the products.
In a statement made available by Special Adviser on agriculture and food security,Boluwade Ebenezer, declared that the Pilot project will engage not less than 50 youth for a start in horticultural activities and we intend to scale it to 400 active youth involvement before the end of the year.
“Accommodation is available for those that want to stay within the farm environment and other incentives will be provided.
“This scheme is geared towards encouraging the youths to go into agriculture as a business and ultimately achieve food security, reduction in youth unemployment, capacity building, yield enhancement and the attraction of investment in agribusiness within the State, Special Adviser on agriculture and food security stated.
