Suspected political thugs allegedly attacked and injured 15 supporters of a member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Wole Oke, in the Government Reserve Area of Osogbo, Osun State.
Oke in a statement he personally signed and released in Osogbo said the attack took place shortly after some northerners living within his constituency, visited him and pledged their support for his reelection.
He said 15 people were inflicted with machete cuts and had to be treated in a hospital in Osogbo during the attack.
The Rep member further alleged that one of the perpetrators that were apprehended had been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The statement partly read, “Some Hausa residents that came from Obokun Local Government to declare their loyalty to me in my house located at the GRA Area of Osogbo were on Friday attacked, inflicted with machete cuts, beaten with clubs and other dangerous weapons by suspected political thugs.
“About 15 of them were seriously wounded. They were later rushed to a hospital in Osogbo where they are currently receiving treatment.
“One of the hoodlums who was apprehended declared that they were being sponsored by an Osogbo-based politician.
“The matter has been reported at the State Police Command.”
The state Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, could not be reached as calls did not go through to her line and she has not responded to a message sent to her on the matter as of the time of filing this report, PUNCH reports.
