Gunmen kill 16-year-old girl in South Africa, steal her phone

Suspected armed robbers have killed a 16-year-old girl identified as Sanele Msibi, in Soweto, South Africa.

The grade 11 pupil of Musi High School, was shot dead by the robbers on Monday morning, December 26, 2022, in Pimville.

According to report, Sanele was shot in the head twice after she was robbed of her cell phone.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in a statement signed by Cde Machabe Mofokeng, on Wednesday, December 28, said that it is saddened by the gruesome murder of the teenager.

“The ANCYL in Mpete Mosaka Branch (Ward 22 in Pimville) is greatly disturbed and saddened by gruesome murder of the young Sanele Msibi, who was robbed of her cellphone and later shot and killed on Christmas day while walking with her friend in Pimville Zone 9. The young girl was a Grade 11 pupil at Musi High School,” the statement read.

“This is the second murder of a young person in the last two months and we cannot accept to live in a community where you can’t even go and buy bread at a spaza shop before being robbed and murdered.

“While we, as young people of Mzansi, suffer immensely due to high level of unemployment, but it’s becoming clearer with each passing day that crime is actually a pandemic in the country, with young women and men being killed each and every day in an around our communities.

“A few weeks ago we commemorated the 16 days of activism against women and child abuse, but it actually does feel like we were unlocking vultures who prey on our young women in that particular period. We therefore, call on each and everyone of us to take this matter serious and push towards making our communities safer by organizing ourselves into street communities and assisting our patrollers and CPF.

“It is also disturbing to note that there’s cabal which continuously try to reduce crime to a certain tribe, yet not dealing with the crime itself, and it’s underlying causes. In many instances, they’ve actually put members of the public in danger with their ludicrous, premature statements which they use as a way to be popular, as if ensuring our communities are safer for everyone is a popularity contest.

“Their reckless behaviour in November 2021 of taking the community to a well armed, organized group of thugs left ordinary community members being killed, and sustaining serious injuries, and we will not repeat the same mistake they have done.

“We are saying enough is enough with the deaths in our community, and we need police intervention now, and we shall ensure that it happens.

“If the Police Minister does not put his dobbs hat aside and wear a beret, and ensure that he protects our communities, then we will have no choice but to revolt, call for his head and ensure he steps down as a matter of urgency for a better leader who will prioritize South Africans and those who are living in it legally. We dare him not to act swiftly

“To this end, the ANCYL would like to pass its heartfelt and deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
