An exceptional 14-year-old girl named Kate Ene David has outperformed 11,000 contestants to win a spelling bee competition in her home country – Nigeria.
Kate Ene David represented Intimacy with Christ International School, Nigeria at the 2022 MTN Spelling Bee competition.
She defeated 11,000 other student representatives of various schools across the country to clinch the gold prize.
As part of the reward for her exceptional performance, Kate Ene David was appointed as a one-day Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria Telecommunications company.
She was also awarded a N2.5 million scholarship, a laptop, a smartphone, and an MTN goody bag.
MTN who sponsored the competition also awarded her English teacher a N350,000 grant as well as donated state-of-the-art ICT devices to her school.
The competition highlighted 20 top contestants including Divine Capable Agbo, Rejoice Okechukwu , and Ann Daniel who are the first, second, and third runner-ups respectively. They were awarded scholarship awards prizes worth over N5.7 million, Thisdaylive reported.
The MTN Chief Officer, Adia Sowho noted that the completion is aimed at promoting the idea that “digital education is one way in which we can encourage people to embrace the digital space and enjoy the benefits and convenience that come with it.”
The winner, Kate Ene David, said the journey “has never been easy, but I studied a lot.”
