Emergency Declaration (2022): Movie Review
Plot: Take your seat.
While investigating a terroristic threat that goes viral online, Korean authorities discover that a suspect has recently boarded an international flight bound for the United States. When a healthy passenger on the same flight suddenly dies a gruesome death of unknown cause, panic erupts both in-flight and on the ground. With steadily decreasing fuel and international refusals to offer aid, the captain and crew will be forced to take unprecedented emergency measures in an attempt to save the lives of their passengers.
Review: At the airport, an anxious young man purchases a ticket for the busiest aircraft he can find: KI501 to Honolulu. Emergency Declaration” then takes off from there.
A short while later, Ryu Jin-seok, the suspicious-looking passenger, cuts a hole beneath his arm and conceals a capsule with a highly contagious, quick-acting virus inside in the washroom.
Jin-seok then transforms into a walking biological weapon, leaving the police on the ground scrambling for an antidote as his fellow passengers begin coughing up blood and falling to the floor in the aisles.
The movie foreshadows issues that many of us encountered when faced with the real thing, such as the extent to which masks are helpful in these circumstances or the issue of the plane being turned away from foreign ports when fear of transmission superseded concerns for diseased passengers.
The plot of Emergency Declaration, which takes place in an airplane Space, is very similar to that of the blockbuster Korean film “Train to Busan,” which is about a zombie epidemic that turned a residential area into a death-plagued area.
Numerous people die as a result of the outbreak, and by the time it’s over, almost everyone on board is infected.
The flight also encounters numerous difficulties, including a sharp descent that sends unbuckled passengers bouncing against the ceiling and a desperate attempt to land in Japan that is met by military jets firing missiles.
HITS: The most frightening scenes were expertly doubled up by Director Han and his editor team, who intercut between dire scenarios for maximum impact.
