One dead, Palace set ablaze as Obaship tussle tears Ikirun

VOICE AIR MEDIA

On Wednesday, crises have broken out in Ikirun community, headquarters of the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, following a violence over the alleged forceful attempt to smuggle-in Oba Olalekan Akadiri into the palace.

One Lukuman Omoola, a descendant of the Gboleru ruling house – one of the houses fighting to fill the vacant throne was said to be shot dead.

Our correspondent further gathered that the Akinrun royal tussle, which has been rocking the town for over about a month was renewed when the Akadiri allegedly led other persons to the town to gain access into the Palace.

Akadiri, who was appointment as the new Akinrun by the Osun State government earlier this month, but he has not been backed by majority of the town including chiefs and the head of kingmakers.

Voice Air Media gathered that he was denied access to the Palace since the second day after his announcement and the government presented instruments of office to him last week at the government secretariat in Osogbo.

In a video sighted by this Newspaper, a section of the Palace caught fire during the Wednesday’s crisis.

The throne had become vacant following the death of the Akirun of Ikirun Land, Oba Abdul-Rauf Adewale Adedeji II, in February 2021.
