In what looks like a community police structure, the Mubi North Local Government in Adamawa State says it has engaged the services of 100 able-bodied men to serve as members of the local vigilante group in the area.

Alhaji Suleiman Yahaya, the council chairman, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Thursday.

He said the initiative was to improve security by enhancing community policing and ensure peaceful coexistence within the area, saying the government would not relent on securing life and property.

Yahaya added that the idea was also aimed at checking the instances of herder-farmers clashes which had since been put under control, stressing that peace was paramount to the development of humanity.

According to him, the council has procured and distributed no fewer than 80 motorcycles, brand-new patrol vehicles, torchlights, rain boots and raincoats to the vigilante group to boost their performance.

“We have placed them on a monthly allowance as we also provide them with foodstuff to motivate them,” he said.

In a related development, the council chairman said his administration had constructed seven roundabouts covering 2.5 kilometres across eleven electoral wards in Mubi metropolis.
