A 34-year-old man identified as Iliya Adamu, committed suicide after he was accused of stealing the sum of N40,000, by his brother.

According to reports, the deceased who was a bricklayer working in Girei LGA, was said to have been accused by his brother of stealing the money in April, 2022. Residents of the community say the deceased maintained his innocence, saying he never took the said money.

Following the shame and embarrassment he received due the accusation, as well as the constant disbelief that he didn’t steal the money, Adamu committed suicide by hanging himself last Thursday, November 10.

His lifeless body was found dangling in the bush in Girei LGA after 2 days. A container of insecticide was reportedly found near the place he hung himself.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the command is investigating it.
