Sergio Ramos will not have another chance to add more laurels to his national team collection after failing to make the cut for Spain’s 26-man squad for Qatar 2022.
Spain’s omission of Sergio Ramos from La Roja’s final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been receiving backlash from some quarters.
Ramos will miss out on an opportunity to play at his 5th World Cup after Spain boss, Luis Enrique opted against taking the veteran Paris Saint-Germain star to the World Cup in preference for younger defenders such as Barcelona’s Eric Garcia.
Ramos holds the record as the most capped Spanish international with 180 caps for La Roja and was part of Spain’s historic squad that won the 2010 World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history.
Meanwhile, Luis Enrique claims his team has enough experience to win the World Cup after leaving out seasoned players Thiago Alcantara and Sergio Ramos, Metro UK reports.
Ramos, who has the most international appearances for the 2010 champions but hasn’t represented his nation since March 2021, will be absent from the trip to Qatar.
