Ondo: Man set step children ablaze

A 54-year old man Ojo Joseph, has been arrested by the police in Ondo State for allegedly setting his five step children ablaze after his wife denied him sex.

The incident reportedly happened at Fagun Crescent area of Ondo town.

Neighbours said the man informed them that he committed the act because his wife offended him over a little misunderstanding.

It was gathered the suspect poured petrol into the room where the children were sleeping and set fire to it.

One of the children was burnt to death while others suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

Their mother and the couple’s twins babies escaped with minor injury.

A source said the man is not the father of the five children but father of the twins.

Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, said the father was arrested for a case of alleged arson and murder.

She said investigation has commenced and would be concluded before charging the suspect to court.
