Buhari To Nigerians: “If You’re Hungry, Go To The Farm”

President Muhammadu Buhari stated that no one has the right to complain about hunger in Nigeria and that Nigerians must be willing to cultivate what they would eat or risk going hungry.

In an interview with Tambarin Hausa TV, a Kano State-based media outlet, Buhari said on Wednesday that Nigeria could still feed itself despite the rains that had ravaged farming villages.

He continued by saying that one of the strategies he implemented after taking power in 2015 was to stop food imports into Nigeria and push people to return to farming.

“I took that decision to stop rice importation and said we should farm what we eat or die of hunger.”

“I said that since we have farm land and God has blessed us with rain, what reason does a Nigerian have to say he’s hungry?”

“If you are hungry, go to the farm. I’m aware that floods have ravaged some farmlands this season but we are still selling rice made in Nigeria, and we can feed ourselves. Is that not an achievement?”

“We have workers who left their air-conditioned offices and went into farming, and they had bounty harvests. So, we are grateful.”

As instability blankets wide expanses of ungoverned land across Nigeria, notably in the North, banditry, insurgency, and other criminal activities have forced thousands of farmers off their farms over the last seven years of the Buhari administration.

Additionally, it was discovered that many locals in northern states like Niger, Kaduna, and Katsina pay taxes to rebels and bandits in exchange for the ability to work freely on their farms. CONTINUE READING…
