The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to soar on Tuesday night, 27 September, as they were defeated 2-1 by Algeria.
Despite coach Jose Peseiro promising Nigerians that his wards would win the battle in Oran hours before kickoff, the Super Eagles were unable to soar against their opponents.
Players of the Super Eagles started the tie impressively, with the likes of Moses Simon and Moffi firing on all cylinders up front against the Algerians.
The breakthrough eventually came for the Super Eagles in the 9th minute when Terem Moffi opened the scoring, which made Nigerian football fans happy.
After conceding against the Super Eagles, Algerian players changed their style of play on the pitch and it paid off before the end of the first half, as Riyad Mahrez restored parity for them.
Youcef Atal scored a brilliant goal in the 61st minute in which goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was beaten nicely.
