JUST IN: Teachers decry kidnapping, rape, attacks in South-East schools

All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, South-East Zone, on Thursday, lamented and condemned attacks, rising insecurity and other menaces in secondary schools across the region, calling for proactive measures to address the challenges.

In a communique issued at the end of their Mandatory Continuing Professional Training programme in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, the principals listed the attacks to include gunmen attacks, abduction of staff and students, kidnapping, rape, suicide, unwitting deployment of mines and explosives by criminals, among others.

In the communique which was signed by the Zonal Chairman of the group, Ezeah Livinus, and the Secretary, Chukwu Emmanuel, the principals lamented that the situation was affecting teaching and learning and urged relevant stakeholders to halt the ugly trend.

As agents of innovation, the communique said principals should use supervisory and records management practices, as well as innovative techniques to improve students’ academic performance.

It read, “Government should provide schools with e-learning facilities and other modern equipment to facilitate the implementation of the curriculum.

“The relevant stakeholders in education should take proactive actions to address the rising insecurity in secondary schools. We have incidences of kidnapping, rape, attacks and abduction in our secondary schools, in the South-East.

“There is need for the provision of adequate funding for the implementation of innovation strategies.” CONTINUE READING………………………..
