JUST IN: Anambra police arrest suspected cultist, recover gun

The Anambra State Police Command, in conjunction with members of the state vigilante group, has arrested a suspected cult member, identified as Izunna Ifeobu.

 

Ifeobu, a 21-year-old native of Ugamuma village, Obosi, in the state, was arrested with a cut-to-size single-barrel gun concealed in a bag.

 

He was said to have been intercepted by the security men in the state at Eke Obosi, by Obosi/Nkpor road, on his way to attend an initiation event scheduled by his cult group.

 

He confessed to being a member of Baggers confraternity.

 

The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed this, Monday, added that other members of the gang, on hearing of the arrest, fled the venue of the initiation meeting.

 

Ikenga pointed out that the case had been transferred to the anti-cult formation of the police command for discreet investigations and efforts were being made to arrest other members.

 

He said, “Police officials attached to Obosi Divisional Headquarters, in conjunction with the members of the vigilante group, Obosi, arrested one Izunna Ifeobu ‘M’ aged 21 years, native of Ugamuma village Obosi, recovered one cut to size single barrel gun concealed in a bag.

 

“Ifeobu was intercepted at Eke Obosi, by Obosi/Nkpor road. He confessed to being a member of Baggers confraternity and was on his way to the initiation ceremony.

 

“Meanwhile, the other gang members, on hearing of his arrest, fled the venue of the initiation meeting. The case has been transferred to the Anti-Cult formation of the Police Command for discreet investigations and efforts are emplaced to arrest other members.
