Incantation (2022)
Plot: Six years ago, Li Ronan was cursed after breaking a religious taboo. Now, she must protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions.
Review: The 2005 occurrence in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where a family claimed to have been possessed by folk demons and suffered the loss of their eldest daughter, served as the basis for the plot of the movie.
In the movie, Ronan has finally had time to heal from what happened six years earlier in order to obtain custody of her daughter Dodo, who had been staying in a foster care..
Dodo, however, experiences a peculiar reaction shortly after and becomes seriously ill.
Six years prior to the announcement, Ronan, along with her boyfriend Dom and his cousin Yuan, were contributors to a Ghostbusters YouTube channel.
To witness a Chen clan ritual honoring the god Buddha-Mother, they traveled to a secluded village.
The curse they brought back with them and how it continues to harm Ronan and those around her are both revealed as the plot of the movie develops.
At one point, Ronan even invites the audience to say a blessing with her at one point. Even if it isn’t very novel in the horror genre, this breaking of the fourth wall helps make the narrative more interesting.
FLOPS: The Camera used in filming the movie was pacing and moving all the time because the editing was disjointed
NOTE: The film is too long and becomes somewhat boring in the middle.
