THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the May/June 2022 WASSCE results.

Speaking at a briefing on Monday, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Patrick Areghan, noted that the results were released 45 days after the last paper.

The examination held for six weeks from May 16 to June 23, 2022.

76.36% of the candidates obtained Credits and above in English Language and Mathematics while 88.04% made Credits and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language and Mathematics.

It could be recalled that a total of 1,6,01,047 sat the examination.

BELOW ARE THE REVIEW OF 2016 TO 2021 PERFORMANCES

The 2021 examination was written by a total of One Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine (1,573,849) candidates from Nineteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty Five (19,425) recognised secondary schools in the country while 1,560,261 million candidates wrote the exam.

The results show that 81.7 per cent of the candidates made credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the 2021 WASSCE.

The outcome of the examination in 2020 was 65.24 per cent.
A total of 1,549,740 candidates registered for the examination from 19,129 recognised secondary schools in Nigeria out of which 1,538,445 candidates sat the examination.

Also, a total of 4,280 candidates with varying degrees of special needs were registered for the examination out of which 230 were visually challenged, 745 had impaired hearing; 2,852 had low vision; 38 were spastic cum mentally challenged, and 58 were physically challenged.

In 2019, the examination recorded a 64.18 per cent pass rate by candidates who obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

The 2018 examination had a total of 1,578,846 registered candidates from 17,886 recognised secondary schools in Nigeria, while 1,572,396 candidates sat the examination.

The results showed that 786,016 candidates, representing 49.98%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

In 2017, candidates that obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics were 59.22%.

In 2016, the total percentage of candidates that had five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics was.97%.
