Osun Osogbo Festival Begins

THE Popular Osun Osogbo festival will begin in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on August 1 and run through August 29, 2022.

The annual festival honors Osun, the Yoruba fertility goddess, and is often held in August at a holy forest. The agreement between people and gods is thought to be renewed by the event.

The festival, which is a major tourist destination, is frequently attended by Osun devotees as well as tourists from all over the world.

The celebration schedule includes the lighting of the 500-year-old six-point lamp known as the “Atupa oloju merindinlogun” three days after the customary purification of the land in Osogbo, also known as “Iwopopo,” on August 1.

The event known as “Bibo Ade Oba Osogbo,” which honors previous kings of Osogbo, is scheduled on August 8, 2022.

The “Dida Ifa arugba” is held on August 11 and involves a young virgin woman (arugba) from a royal family making offerings to the god.
