The gale of resignations from the All Progressives Congress, APC,in Rivers has continued with former member of State House of Assembly, Dr. Chigbo Eligwe also announcing he is leaving the party.
Â
Eligwe who represented Ahoada West State Constituency said his decision to quit APC was because of total control of the state chapter of the party by Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation.
Â
Eligwe said since 2015, he has “watched the party being run as a Fiefdom where one individual has complete control over all decisions regarding party positions, employment opportunities and contracts. This is definitely not democracy being practiced,” in his letter of resignation that was addressed to the Chairman of APC in his Ward 10, Ahoada West Local Governments Area of Rivers.
Â
Eligwe said he joined the APC in Rivers in the hopes of creating a political power that will serve the needs of his people and Constituency.
Â
He said he envisioned a political party where all people are treated equally regardless of age, educational achievements, status, or ethnicity, with the hopes that all people would be given equal access or opportunity for political participation.
Â
But he said his hopes have not been realised: “Unfortunately, this was not the case and I can no longer standby and watch helplessly. Therefore, due to the above stated reasons, I hereby wish to resign forthwith, my membership of the All Progressives Congress, [APC]”.
Â
Just like others who had resigned before him, he did not indicate which political party he will be joining next. CONTINUE READING………
