Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State, paid a visit to Nigeria’s current president, Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
Voice Air Media has earlier reported that his visits to Abuja, were made with the intention of gaining approval from Nigeria’s president. He did, however, reveal his presidential ambitions after he had left.
When asked about an unconfirmed report that the APC may present former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s sole presidential candidate in 2023, and his chances against him.
The governor responded and stated if the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominates former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s flagbearer, he will not run for president in 2023. He did pledge to support him.
“I hold President Jonathan in high regard. As a result, I don’t face any difficulties about him running.”
“If the political leadership of my party, the APC, believes that President Jonathan is the best candidate to lead us to victory at any moment, I will lend my support to him.”
“I will never oppose the establishment, the institution, the aristocracy, or the spiritual vortex in which God has placed a leader on the land. I will never dispute a country’s leader’s authority.
“I’ve never dabbled in animosity or brawl politics. If you’re curious about how I became governor, it was by pledging to support anybody the governor desired.
