An unnamed civil servant reportedly behind the death rumour of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has been suspended by the state government.
VAM reports that according to Head of Service, Pastor John Adeyemo, the civil servant posted the fake news on his Facebook account.
Recall that rumours started circulating last week that Governor Akeredolu died at a foreign hospital.
A popular blog amplified the news. But Betty Akeredolu, wife of the Governor quashed the speculations.
The Governor has since returned to Nigeria, putting the rumours to bed.
Pastor Adeyemo, while disclosing the sanction meted out to the civil servant on Wednesday said the act by the fake news purveyors is wicked. He also stated that the decision of the government to suspend the civil servant will serve as a deterrent to others.
“Incidentally, I called Mr Governor a day before the rumour and we spoke and chatted. So, when I heard the fake news I was disturbed and was like who is this fellow carrying this terrible rumour I knew Mr Governor was alive and with vigour. So, never believed it,” Adeyemo told the press in Akure, the state capital. CONTINUE READING…
