At least four officers were shot dead in an attack on Atani Police Station in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
VAM gathered that the gunmen carried out the attack in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to a source from Atani, the attackers arrived the area at about 1:30am on Wednesday.
The source said four police officers, including a female, lost their lives in the attack.
There has been a series of attacks on police stations and other government facilities in Anambra since Prof Chukwuma Soludo assumed office as governor three weeks ago.
Soludo has consistently assured that those responsible for the attacks would not go unpunished.
Confirming the latest attack, spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said, “The hoodlums came around 1am, and unluckily for us, four police operatives paid the supreme price.”
He said the commissioner of police, CP Echeng Echeng, on hearing of the attack immediately mobilised men of the command from various units to the area.
According to him, the hoodlums were still there when the policemen led by the CP got to the area.
Ikenga said the timely arrival of the policemen saved the day as the hoodlums were successfully repelled.
“We have commenced intelligence already, and we hope to unravel the persons behind the attack,” he said.
He was, however, unable to state the identity of the attackers. CONTINUE READING…
