SSCE: Principal, 2 others docked for beating female teacher

Police dock Principal of Community Secondary School, Okuru Ama in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Sylvanus Toby and one other for beating up a female teacher.

 

 

The Principal of Community Secondary School in Okuru Ama, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Sylvanus Toby has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court on a two – count charge of conspiracy and criminality.

 

 

 

Toby and one Siyeofori Godspower, the Chairman of Community Development Committee Chairman(CDC) of the Okuru Ama and others now at large were alleged to have beaten up one Mrs Blessing Oba, a teacher of the school for criticising collection of an alleged illegal WAEC fees from students.

 

 

 

Police said in the papers filed in court that Sylvanus hired the CDC Chairman and others to beat up Madam Oba because she complained about the WAEC fees levied on the students in the school.

 

 

 

The female teacher had argued that there was no need for such sees since the state government has paid all the fees for the candidates.

 

 

 

The defendants also allegedly threatened to kill the teacher after collecting her Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card, phone worth N82,000 and leather pouch worth N5,000.

 

 

 

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna after listening to arguments by the prosecution and defense counsels on the issue of bail, granted the accused bail at the sum of N300,000 with two sureties who must deposit two passport photographs.

 

 

 

However, the other accused persons were not in court.

 

 

 

Therefore, the Chief Magistrate Nna ordered that the Principal must produce the second accused on the next adjourned date, which is on the 6th of April, 2022.

 

 

 

Counsel to the Claimant, OC Higher King, a human rights Advocate explained that the claimant was molested by the principal and the CDC chairman for questioning them over the illegal WAEC fees.
