Nigeria’s Oyatoye “Baba Asa” organises Asa Day in Canada

A Canada-based Nigerian, Prince Olaniyi Oyatoye “Baba Asa” yesterday visited the Timi of Ede land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, to invite the monarch to the forthcoming Asa Day 2022, which will take place in Oyo state.

At the Palace of the monarch, Oyatoye explained what prompted him in the crusade of bringing into the consciousness of Yoruba sons and daughters why we must embrace our culture. He said, “As we speak today, our culture is gradually going into an extinction, and if care is not taken, it may fade away completely.”

Prince Oyatoye said, “Yoruba is very rich in culture, unfortunately, we the owner of the culture are not ready to embrace it.”

“Whenever we travel abroad, the white people do ask us our source and this makes us to start tracing our origin.”

“We want to use our culture to revamp our economy. There are many other benefits we can derive from our culture.”

Speaking with Newsmen, Kabir Adekunle, CEO, Kabtok Hotel, said Yoruba culture is the most popular tribe in the world, “I am calling on Yoruba indigens to wake up to embrace and strengthen our culture. We are the rightful owner of our culture. We should drop the attitude of embracing foreign culture, as it’s beginning to have negative impact on our own culture.”

He however called on government at all levels to help include Yoruba training and culture into school curriculum.

The Timi of Ede land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal admonished parents who are of Yoruba race to stop speaking English to their children. The monarch said, “We must start instilling into the minds of our children Yoruba culture from home.”

“The way our culture is dwindling calls for all sons and daughters of Yoruba race to wake up and take back what belongs to us.”

“It’s our culture that distinguish us from other tribes – The way we dress, talk and relate to one another. We should stop speaking English to our children at home. We should not by ourselves kill our culture.” The monarch said

Ololade Oluwakemi, The welfare Manager for Asa day World wide explained that the Asa Day Worldwide inc stands for promotion of culture and showcasing of Yoruba culture to the world by promoting and encouraging people to embrace the culture so that it doesn’t go into extinction.

“In our findings, it was revealed that our people don’t put much effort to ensure the sustainability of Yoruba Culture, so for this revelation and many others we have been engaging the youths with empowerment because they are the Leaders of today”

In 2022, 21st May, will be having another world cultural day in Oyo state and also on August this year, will be holding Asa Day Canada edition 2022 as we shall be embarking on World cultural tour where many more countries will be involved in projecting Yoruba culture that the whole world will accept, She said

Ololade in her word; said the group is pleading with private investors, companies, government and every lovers of culture to partner and support Asa Day Worldwide inc to unlock and project Yoruba worldwide.
