Ekiti Guber: INEC Takes Voters’ Registration To The Grassroot

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has moved voters’ registration from its offices to the 177 wards across Ekiti state.

According to report, INEC Deputy Director Voter Registration, National Headquarters Abuja, Mr Paul Ayaeze announced this at a stakeholder meeting in Ado Ekiti.

He said the exercise would start on March 8 and end on the 14th of the same month between the hours of 9 O’clock in the morning and three o’clock in the afternoon.

Mr Ayaeze listed categories of people to participate in the one week exercise to include, those who have not registered in the past, people who just attained the age of 18, those who have issues with their permanent Voter cards or lost their PVC as well as those willing to transfer their PVC to new locations.

The INEC Deputy Director said the ward registration became necessary to enable the commission to capture more eligible voters, warning that those who have registered in the past should not participate in the exercise.

Mr Ayaeze told the gathering that the display of the list of new registrants would begin on the 16th of March for claims and objections to rectify any error noticed from the list.

Also, the Deputy Director, Electoral Operations, INEC headquarters Abuja, Mr Akeem Adigun said 250 new polling units had been created in Ekiti as part of efforts to address voter apathy during the forthcoming election in the state.

In their remarks, some of the stakeholders including; the chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon and the President of Iyalojas in Ekiti state, Chief Waye Oso thanked INEC for bringing the voters’ registration nearer to the people, promising to support the commission to ensure the success of the exercise.

Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Tellar Adeniran gave assurance that the votes of the People would count during the June 18 Governorship poll in Ekiti State.
