Senegal Beat Egypt To Win AFCON 2021

Sadio Mane scored the decisive penalty in a nail-biting shootout as Senegal overcame Egypt to be crowned this year’s Africa Cup of Nations champions, AFCON 2021.

The Teranga Lions lifted the trophy after beating the Pharoahs of Egypt 4-2 on penalties.

Egypt had goalkeeper Gabaski was arguably instrument in dragging the game to extra time with sublime saves at intervals.

Liverpool’s Sadio Mane had missed a penalty early in the first, blasting straight at the Egyptian goalkeeper from the spot kick.

While Mohammed Salah caused some trouble to the Senegal defence, Gabaski was the most busy of the two goal tenders.

Senegal were making their third appearance at the AFCON final after losing to their previous appearances to Cameroon in 2002 and Morocco in 2019.

Sadio Mane took centre stage to score the final spot kick to gift the Teranga Lions their first continental crown.

Cameroon, this year’s hosts, sealed third place 24 hours earlier after coming from three goals down to beat Burkina Faso on penalties.
