President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s number one man, recounted with nostalgia in Kaduna on Thursday how he nearly escaped being bombed near the Kawo bridge in July 2014, while traveling to Katsina State.
Buhari stated while inspecting the freshly constructed Kawo bridge by the El-Rufai administration, “there was an attempt to bomb me here…
There was a market in the vicinity.”
….but his security detail remained attentive.
The Kawo bridge was a project that many described as a cynosure, attracting a large number of tourists to Kaduna since its completion.
President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the ultramodern sports and shopping complex at Murtala Square Kaduna as part of his tour, during which he reiterated his intention to remain in Kaduna after leaving office.
While commissioning the project, the President lauded the El-Rufai administration’s foresight and developmental advances, noting that Kaduna would be impossible for a long-time visitor to recognize.
Earlier in the day, President Buhari visited Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna, where he expressed gratitude for the numerous projects he commissioned and commended the Governor for constructing good roads and other infrastructural projects in rural areas of the state.
Buhari and his entourage, led by Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, were due in Zaria to continue the commissioning of the projects.
The President’s visit to Kaduna, his state of residence since his military retirement, was scheduled to end on Friday.
