Less than five days to Christmas celebration, Hunter, Ismaila Ojo has allegedly shot dead his follow villager at Ita-Merin village, near Ore in Ondo state.
It was gathered that the hunter shot a 70 years old man who is his neighbour while defecating in the bush at the back of his house, he claimed he was testing his gun.
Parading the suspects to newsmen in Akure, the new Ondo state Commissioner of Police, Mr Oyeyemi Oyediran said the hunter was arrested with his locally made gun.
The Commissioner said, “On 21st of December, one Ismaila Ojo ‘m’ who is a hunter shot a 70 years old man who is his neighbour while defecating in the bush at the back of his house, he claimed he was testing his gun. A Dane gun was recovered from the suspect.”
Narrating the incident to newsmen, the suspect confessed to have shot the aged man around 3:00am, but insisted that he mistaken the victim for animal in the night.
Ojo claimed to be a registered hunter, said he was the one that raised the alarm after he mistakenly shot him and took him to the near farm settlement for medical attention.
He said if he did it deliberately, he would not have raised the alarm for help.
The suspect who said the man died days after the incident, pleaded for mercy as he could not have killed such neighbour over nothing.
“I have never committed crimes in my life, everybody knows me as hunter, i don’t know how animal turned to human being. Have mercy on me ooo,” Ojo said.
